ABSTRACT

Although the FeOx-CaO-SiO2 system is one of the most fundamental systems in general metallurgy, its phase diagram has been studied only at iron saturation or in air. However, in order to correctly describe the oxidative copper smelting and iron ore sintering, information on this system under intermediate oxygen potentials (log PO2 from -9 to -5 atm) is indispensable. Several results on the phase relations of this system, obtained by computer aided thermodynamic modeling, are presented here with special reference on the influence of oxygen potential.
